Who Series 7 tutoring is for

Most people who book a session are not starting from zero. They have studied — the score just stopped moving.

  • You’re retaking the Series 7 after failing once — or twice
  • Your practice scores have been stuck in the 60s for weeks
  • Options questions cost you points no matter how much you review them
  • Suitability and customer account questions feel like a coin flip
  • Municipal securities, bonds, and yield math never fully clicked
  • You have a sponsorship window or a booked exam date closing in
  • You finished a self-study course and still don’t know what to fix
  • You run out of time or focus in the back half of the 125 questions

What we cover in a Series 7 session

Function 3 — information, recommendations, and records — is 73% of the exam. That’s where sessions usually go.

Options

Recognizing the strategy from the setup, then working it: maximum gain, maximum loss, breakeven, and what happens at expiration or exercise. We spend most of the time on the step that actually breaks candidates — deciding which strategy the question is describing, and which one is suitable for the customer in front of you, before touching any math.

Suitability and customer accounts

Investment objective, time horizon, risk tolerance, and liquidity needs decide the answer far more often than product knowledge does. We work through account types, documentation, discretionary versus non-discretionary handling, and the recommendation chains where two answers look defensible and only one fits the profile.

Municipal securities

General obligation versus revenue bonds, sources of debt service, official statements and disclosure, and the tax treatment that makes munis suitable for one customer and wrong for another — including tax-equivalent yield and why the bracket in the question is never decoration.

Bonds, yields, and accrued interest

Price-and-yield relationships, current yield versus yield to maturity versus yield to call, premium and discount behavior, and accrued interest conventions. These questions are quick points once the relationships are automatic instead of re-derived under time pressure.

Margin

Regulation T, initial and maintenance requirements, long and short accounts, and the arithmetic behind excess equity and buying power. Margin questions reward a clean, repeatable procedure — we build yours.

Taxation and retirement accounts

Cost basis, capital gains and losses, wash sales, dividend and interest treatment, and how qualified and non-qualified accounts change the recommendation. Taxation shows up folded inside suitability questions more often than it appears on its own.

Communications and recommendations

Retail communications, correspondence, and institutional communications, approval and recordkeeping standards, and the disclosure requirements attached to what you say to a customer.

Time management across 125 scored questions

Three hours and forty-five minutes is enough time — until you spend six minutes on an options question and start rushing. We work on pacing, when to flag and move on, and how to keep accuracy steady through the back half of the exam when concentration drops.

How we diagnose and teach

Most Series 7 failures we see are not knowledge failures. They’re reading failures.

Candidates arrive able to define a covered call, explain a revenue bond, and recite Regulation T — and still miss the questions. The reason is almost always the same: FINRA questions are written to be read carefully, and candidates read them the way they read their study material. So we fix the reading first. What is the question actually asking? Which two answers are distractors, and why were they written that way? What in the customer profile makes one of the remaining answers wrong? That is the work, and it is what moves a score that has stopped moving.

From there it’s pattern recognition — teaching you to recognize the handful of question shapes the exam reuses — elimination discipline, and timing, so the method holds up on question 110 as well as it does on question 10.

Who you’re working with

  • 15+ years in the securities industry, including a career inside major banks
  • Thousands of hours of one-on-one tutoring across FINRA and NASAA exams
  • A track record of Series 7 retake rescues — candidates who failed once or twice, often after a big-box course and roughly $1,000 in exam fees, and passed once the approach to reading FINRA questions changed

Series 7 prep was personalized around my schedule. Each session targeted what I needed most, and my confidence improved fast.
