Private Series 65 Tutoring Built Around Your Weak Areas
Series 65 tutoring for candidates on an exam with no sponsorship requirement and no shortage of ways to lose points — adviser law, ethics, portfolio strategy, and economics, tested at a level that rewards judgment over memory.

Who Series 65 tutoring is for
Series 65 candidates often study alone, which is why the weak areas go unnoticed until the exam.
- You are taking the 65 without firm sponsorship and studying on your own
- Fiduciary duty questions feel subjective and your answers are inconsistent
- The federal versus state registration split for advisers is not clear
- Custody rules and Form ADV requirements blur together
- Portfolio and risk measures are names you recognize but cannot interpret
- The economics and business cycle material feels disconnected from the rest
- You are moving into an advisory role and have a deadline
- Your practice scores sit in the low 70s and the pass line is just above
What we cover in a Series 65 session
Four areas: economic factors and business information, investment vehicle characteristics, client recommendations and strategies, and law, regulations, and ethics.
Investment adviser regulation
The federal and state split, Form ADV, custody, and the brochure delivery requirements. This is the densest rule material on the exam and the part self-studying candidates most often skim.
Fiduciary duty and ethics
What the standard actually requires, which conflicts must be disclosed, and which conflicts disclosure cannot cure. Questions here look subjective and are not — there is a defined standard, and we work until you are applying it rather than reasoning from fairness.
Client recommendations and strategies
Risk tolerance, time horizon, tax status, and liquidity needs, and the strategy that follows from a profile. The exam gives you a client and expects the recommendation to respect every constraint in the setup, not just the obvious one.
Portfolio and risk measures
Standard deviation, beta, alpha, Sharpe, correlation, and duration — tested on interpretation. The exam rarely asks you to compute one; it asks what a given value means for this client.
Investment vehicle characteristics
Equity, debt, pooled products, derivatives, and insurance-based products, compared on the dimensions an adviser actually weighs: cost, liquidity, tax treatment, and risk.
Economics and the business cycle
Indicators, monetary and fiscal policy, and inflation — plus the tax and retirement planning material threaded through client recommendations. Easy to under-study because it feels peripheral, and it is not.
How we diagnose and teach
Most Series 65 candidates study alone and therefore never have a weak area named out loud. The exam is broad enough that a self-assessment tends to be optimistic, and the areas people avoid — adviser regulation and the quantitative measures — are precisely the ones that cost points. A session is often most useful as an honest diagnostic first and instruction second.
From there it’s pattern recognition — teaching you to recognize the handful of question shapes the exam reuses — elimination discipline, and timing, so the method holds up at the end of the exam as well as it does at the start.
